Receptacles here are Leviton commercial and industrial devices, from 15 and 20 amp 125V outlets up to 60 amp 3-pole 4-wire units for ranges, welders, and machinery. Pick by NEMA configuration first, because the blade pattern has to match the plug on the equipment, and 2-pole 3-wire, 3-pole 3-wire, and 3-pole 4-wire devices are not interchangeable. Then match amperage to the branch circuit and breaker, not to the appliance nameplate alone. Flush mount devices need a matching box, while surface mount units bolt to a finished wall.
Common questions
How do I know which receptacle my equipment needs?
Read the plug or the equipment nameplate, which states the NEMA configuration, voltage, and amperage. A welder with a 6-50P plug needs a 6-50R receptacle and nothing else. If the plug is worn or unmarked, count the blades and note their shape, then call (905) 553-7171 and we can identify the match.
What is the difference between 3-pole 3-wire and 3-pole 4-wire?
A 3-pole 4-wire device carries a separate grounding conductor alongside the three current carrying poles, while 3-pole 3-wire has no separate ground. Current installations generally call for the grounded version, and the two blade patterns do not mate. Check what the equipment plug requires before ordering.
Can I install a 20 amp receptacle on a 15 amp circuit?
No. That invites a 20 amp load onto wiring not sized for it. The receptacle rating should not exceed the branch circuit rating, with the known exception of multiple 15 amp receptacles installed on a 20 amp circuit. Confirm the arrangement with your electrician before you buy the device.
Should I choose flush mount or surface mount?
Flush mount devices set into a box inside the wall and finish with a plate, which suits new work and finished rooms. Surface mount units arrive with their own enclosure and fasten to a finished wall or directly to equipment, which is the usual choice in shops, garages, and mechanical rooms.
Can I pick receptacles up, or do they ship?
Both. Counter pickup is at 8520 Jane St, Vaughan, ON, and orders also ship anywhere in Canada in roughly 3 to 7 business days. Ontario and Quebec orders over $150 ship free, and other provinces get 10% off applied at checkout. Our price match guarantee covers these devices.
