What is a recessed TV box?

A recessed TV box is a wall-mounted enclosure that sits flush inside the wall behind a flat-screen TV, so the power receptacle and low-voltage/AV connectors are set back rather than sticking out. That recess lets the TV mount closer to the wall, because plugs and connectors aren’t holding it off the surface.

Arlington’s TV BOX® line is built for exactly this: a recessed plastic box with space for a receptacle on the power side and openings for low-voltage cabling such as HDMI, coax or Ethernet on the other. Many TV BOX models include a built-in divider so line-voltage power and low-voltage signal stay separated within the assembly.

Can you put a receptacle behind a wall-mounted TV?

In many installations a recessed receptacle is placed behind the TV using a listed recessed box such as the Arlington TV BOX®, which is designed to house a receptacle while keeping it flush to the wall. The key requirement is that power and low-voltage wiring are handled correctly — combining a line-voltage receptacle and low-voltage AV cabling in one location calls for a listed box, often one with a divider, and proper separation between the two.

Maple is a supply-only distributor. Whether a specific box, location and method are acceptable for your install — including receptacle placement, separation of line and low voltage, and any clearances — should be confirmed by a licensed electrician working to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and your local inspector.

Which TV BOX size/gang for my setup?

The right TV BOX depends on how much you need to terminate behind the TV. A single-gang box suits a simple install with one receptacle and a light cable run, while a two-gang box gives more room for a receptacle plus several low-voltage connections, or for a divider that keeps power and signal apart. Larger recessed media boxes add capacity for soundbars, streaming devices and multiple AV feeds.

Match the box to the device count and cable bundle you actually have, and check the individual product page for each TV BOX model’s gang configuration, divider and certification marks. If you’re unsure which size fits your wall and equipment, send us your list and our counter team can help you select the right Arlington part.

Power + low-voltage in one box?

Yes — that’s the core purpose of the TV BOX® design. A divided recessed box lets you land a line-voltage receptacle on one side and route low-voltage AV cabling (HDMI, coax, Ethernet) through the other, with a built-in divider keeping the two separated inside a single recessed assembly behind the TV.

Keeping line and low voltage properly separated is a code matter. Use a listed box rated for the combination, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and have a licensed electrician confirm the method meets the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) for your application.

FAQ

What is an Arlington TV BOX?

Arlington TV BOX® is a line of recessed media boxes that mount behind a wall-mounted flat-screen. They house a power receptacle and low-voltage/AV connections flush inside the wall so the TV sits tight to the surface, with many models offering a built-in divider.

Can power and low-voltage share one box?

Yes — TV BOX® models with a built-in divider are designed to keep a line-voltage receptacle and low-voltage AV cabling separated within one recessed assembly. Always use a listed box and have a licensed electrician confirm the method meets the Canadian Electrical Code.

Which gang size should I choose?

Match the box to your device and cable count: single-gang for one receptacle and light cabling, two-gang for a receptacle plus several low-voltage feeds or a divider, and larger media boxes for soundbars and multiple AV devices. Check each product page for the exact configuration.

Are Arlington TV BOX products priced in CAD?

Yes. All Arlington products on our store are priced in Canadian dollars (CAD). You order domestically through Maple, an authorized Canadian distributor, with no exchange-rate surprises at checkout.

Is installation included or code-approved by Maple?

No. Maple is a supply-only distributor. We stock the parts, but installation, receptacle placement, line/low-voltage separation and code compliance should always be handled by a licensed electrician working to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and confirmed with your local inspector.
