Fans, heaters and lights that only need to run for a short while are easy to forget. The Intermatic FD30MWC is a spring wound in-wall countdown timer with a 30-minute maximum: turn the knob and it switches the load off when time runs out. It runs on 125-277 VAC with an SPST contact and needs no power of its own, so there's no neutral to find, and it fits a decorator wallplate.
Why electricians pick it
- Spring wound mechanism, so it needs no electricity or neutral to time.
- Works on 125 to 277 VAC circuits, residential or commercial.
- Rated 20 A resistive at 125 VAC and 10 A resistive at 250/277 VAC.
- Decorator style replaces a standard single-pole switch.
- UL and CSA listed.

Pro tip from the counter
This is the no-hold version, so the knob can't be parked in a permanent ON position. If the owner will sometimes want the fan or light left on, order a hold-type model instead, and mention that the mechanism ticks while it runs, which some people notice in a quiet bedroom or ensuite.
Best for: bathroom exhaust fans, heat lamps, garage and workshop lights, commercial washroom fans, sauna and utility room loads
