A commercial spring wound countdown timer with a 12 hour maximum timing range and a HOLD position, SPST, rated 125-277 VAC at 50/60 Hz, in silver with a brushed metal finish. It replaces a standard single-gang wall switch, needs no neutral and no electricity to run the mechanism, and Intermatic supplies it complete with the dial wall plate.

Why the HOLD position is the whole decision

Wind the knob and the timer counts down mechanically and breaks the circuit at the end of the cycle - that is the energy-saving behaviour, and it is why these get specified on washroom fans, storage closets and garage lighting. Turn it the other way into HOLD and the load stays on until somebody comes back and takes it out of HOLD. Cleaners, service techs and anyone painting a room need that. The trade-off is real: a timer left in HOLD is just an on switch, and the load can run all night. If the timer is there to satisfy an automatic-shutoff requirement, confirm with the designer that a HOLD version is acceptable before you install it, because the FF12HC is the same timer without HOLD.
