If you have surface-mounted a handy box in a garage, shop or mechanical room and need to finish it with a modern rectangular device rather than a toggle switch, this is the plate that does it.

Why the opening shape matters

Handy box covers are not interchangeable. The same box takes a duplex-opening cover, a toggle-opening cover or this rectangular device opening, and the one you need depends entirely on the device going in — not on the box. Ordering by box size alone is how people end up making a second trip. Check the device first, then pick the cover.

Common questions

Will this fit any 4" x 2-1/2" handy box?
It is sized for the standard 4" x 2-1/2" utility box footprint, which is what ORTECH's own 1100-series boxes use. If your box came from another manufacturer, measure it before ordering — the footprint is an industry standard but the screw spacing is worth a check.

Can I use it for a standard duplex receptacle?
No. The opening is cut for a rectangular GFCI or Decora-style device. A standard duplex receptacle with the two round openings needs a duplex cover instead.

Is the plate weatherproof?
No. This is a dry-location cover. Outdoors or anywhere wet, you need a weatherproof in-use cover and a box rated for the location.

Do I need a gasket?
None is supplied, and none is needed for the indoor surface-mount use this cover is designed for.
