A manual motor starter is a motor protection circuit breaker that gives a motor branch circuit short circuit protection, overload protection and a local disconnect in one DIN rail device. Can this replace a contactor and overload relay?
On simple direct on line circuits where the motor is started at the device itself, yes. If you need remote start and stop, automatic control from a PLC, or a contactor that drops the motor on power loss, keep the contactor and let the starter serve as protection and disconnect.
