When the thermostat on an Intermatic PF-series freeze protection control fails, the pool pump no longer comes on in a cold snap and the plumbing and heater are at risk. The Intermatic 178T24 is the replacement freeze protection thermostat for the PF1102T and PF1103T controls, and it also plugs into the circuit board on the P1353ME. It senses outdoor air temperature and turns the pump and heater circuit on when the air drops below the set point, adjustable from 32°F to 45°F.
Why pool techs pick it
- Factory replacement part for PF1102T and PF1103T freeze protection timers.
- Wiring connects directly into the PF-series control mechanism.
- Adjustable set point from 32°F to 45°F balances freeze protection against pump run time.
- Protects pumps, heaters, filters and exposed plumbing on equipment pads.
- Used in 120 V and 240 V PF-series installations.

Pro tip from the counter
Place the sensing element where it reads true outdoor air: shaded, and away from the heater exhaust, a warm equipment wall or a sunny corner. A sensor that sits in the sun can keep the pump off on a clear night that still freezes exposed pipes.
Best for: pool service technicians, year-round pool and spa owners, replacing a failed PF1102T or PF1103T thermostat, outdoor spa equipment pads
