A one-gang blank wallplate in brown thermoset plastic, standard size, box mount. It has no device opening at all - its whole job is to close off an outlet box that has no device in it, either because the circuit was capped off, because the box is a junction or pull point, or because the device has not been installed yet.
Why you cannot just leave the box open
An outlet box with splices in it has to be closed and has to stay accessible. A blank plate does both: it covers the opening and it comes off with two screws when somebody needs to get at the conductors later. The part people get wrong is the mount. This plate is box mount, so the screws land in the box ears, not in a device strap - which is exactly right for a box with nothing in it, and exactly wrong if you were hoping to reuse a device-mount plate that came off a switch. If the box is going to be covered by drywall or panelling, a blank plate does not solve the problem; that box needs to be moved or made accessible.

Pro tip from the counter
Thermoset and thermoplastic blanks both come in brown and they do not always age to the same shade. If you are blanking one box in a row of older brown plates, bring the spare from that job rather than a fresh one out of the box, or the blank will be the thing everyone notices.
Best for: closing off unused single-gang boxes, capped circuits and junction points in brown-trimmed residential and light commercial work.
Common questions
Can I use a blank plate over a box that still has live splices in it?
Yes, provided the box stays accessible after the plate goes on. A blank plate closes the opening and still lets somebody remove two screws to reach the conductors.
Is this plate box mount or device mount?
Leviton lists the mount as Box, so the screws land in the outlet box ears rather than in a device strap. That is what you want on a box with no device.
What is thermoset plastic and is it different from nylon?
Leviton lists the material as Thermoset Plastic, which is a cured plastic that does not soften again with heat. It is a different material family from nylon plates.
Does this plate come with mounting screws?
Leviton does not state screw inclusion on the product page, so check the packaging or plan to use the screws already in the box ears.
