A galvanized steel one-gang rectangular device cover with an integral extension ring, for 4" x 2-1/2" utility boxes. The raised ring brings the device forward to the new finished surface, which is what you need after tile, panelling or a second layer of drywall has left the box sitting proud of nothing and the device buried.
Why the extension ring earns its place
When a wall finish gets added over an existing surface-mounted box, the device ends up recessed behind the new face. Rather than pulling the box and re-anchoring it, this cover raises the device plane in one part. It saves the demolition, and it keeps the original box and its conductors undisturbed.

Pro tip from the counter
Measure the finish you are adding before you order the ring, not after. A 1-7/8" ring over a 1/2" tile job pushes the device too far forward and the plate will rock on the wall instead of sitting flat.
Best for: renovators and service electricians bringing an existing surface-mounted box forward to a newly finished wall without relocating the box.
Common questions
Is this a cover or a box?
Functionally a cover with a built-in extension ring. It closes the existing utility box and carries the device forward — you still need the original box behind it.
How much does it bring the device forward?
The assembly measures 1-7/8" deep overall. Compare that against the thickness of the finish you are adding before ordering.
Does it come with mounting screws?
Assume not, and check the packaging. Device screws normally come with the device itself.
Can I stack two of them for a deeper wall?
Don't. Stacking rings puts the device mounting into unsupported steel and the assembly ends up flexing; use a deeper box or a purpose-made extension instead.
