Underwater pool and spa lights run at 12 V, and the transformer feeding them must be built for it. The Intermatic PX100 is a 100 W pool and spa safety transformer with a grounded shield between the primary and secondary windings, built-in overload protection and 12, 13 and 14 V output taps to make up for cable length. It lives in a beige, Type 3R steel enclosure with mounting brackets top and bottom.

Pro tip from the counter

Choose the output tap from Intermatic's cable-length chart, not by guesswork. The manual calls for 12 V plus or minus 0.3 V at the lamp, and it warns that more than 12.3 V at the light can make the internal protection cycle the transformer off and on.

I purchased this transformer for LED lights that I have installed around the pool. In some of the reviews, the transformer was described as noisy and making a loud humming noise. I was nervous about purchasing this transformer because of those reviews, but I went ahead with the purchase anyway since there aren't many low voltage transformers that are available for installing lights close to a pool for safety reasons.
