Installation Notes

Fixed electric space heating is governed by CEC Section 62. Conductors and overcurrent protection are sized at 125% of the heater load (CEC 8-104), so a 15 A 240 V circuit carries up to 2880 W of connected heat and a 20 A 240 V circuit up to 3840 W. Do not install a baseboard directly beneath a wall receptacle - a cord draped over the element is a fire risk and an inspection failure.

Does the ODL1500CM include a thermostat?
No - this is the base unit and it needs a control. You can either run a line-voltage wall thermostat, or order the equivalent part number with a factory-installed thermostat built in. We stock both, plus the Ouellet stats that suit them.

Can I put this baseboard under a window with a receptacle above it?
Under the window, yes - that is the right place for it, because it counters the cold downdraft off the glass. Directly under a receptacle, no. A cord hanging down onto the element is a fire risk and it will fail inspection.

How much clearance does a baseboard heater need?
Keep the clearance stated on the nameplate to the floor, to carpet and to drapes. A baseboard works by drawing cool air in the bottom and pushing warm air out the top - block either and you lose output and risk nuisance tripping on the thermal cutout.

Can I cut a baseboard heater down to fit the wall?
No. The element is a fixed length inside a fixed enclosure. Use a shorter part number, or run two smaller units, and size the circuit for the combined load.
