The Arlington FB405 is the go-to shallow plastic pan box for ceiling fans and fixtures on 1/2 in or 5/8 in drywall. It works well on double joists or wood I-beams, and the centre screw, NM connector, mud cover and fan-bracket screws all ship installed. Arlington's own part listing spells out the split: UL listed for a 70 lb fan and 200 lb fixture, CSA listed for 50 lb fan and 50 lb fixture, and the CSA figure governs in Canada.

Pro tip from the counter
The "70lb/200lb" printed on many listings for this box is its UL rating. For a Canadian inspection, quote the CSA 50 lb figure to the customer at the counter, especially when they're picking out a heavy fan with a light kit.
