Its bent design lets the blade ride flat along a surface, and the extra blunt tip helps avoid snagging what is underneath.

Pro tip from the counter
If the blades start folding tape or fabric instead of cutting it, snug the pivot tension screw a little rather than squeezing harder. Note that the bent handles and large ring are shaped for right-handed use.
