The Arlington FBS415S is a steel octagonal fan and fixture box with a side-mounting bracket: it fastens to the side of a joist in new work and gives 14.6 cu in at 1-1/2 in depth. It is CSA rated for a 50 lb fan or fixture, the rating Canadian installers must work to. Arlington's rating chart lists this S (side-bracket) version at 70 lb for both fan and fixture under UL, not the 200 lb fixture figure of the under-joist FBS415.

Pro tip from the counter

Don't sell this box off a 200 lb chandelier claim. The S suffix is the side-bracket version, which Arlington's chart rates lower under UL than the under-joist FBS415, and in Canada both carry a CSA rating of 50 lb. Anything heavier needs a support system rated for the weight.
