The Arlington FA426GC IN/OUT™ adjustable ceiling box mounts to the joist in new construction, then its depth adjusts from 1/2 in to 1-1/2 in before or after the ceiling goes up. It is a non-metallic, 20.7 cu in box for light fixtures only, listed for fixtures up to 50 lb, and this GC version adds a grounding clip.

Arlington gives this box a fixture rating only, so it is not a ceiling fan box. If there is any chance the owner adds a fan later (bedrooms and living rooms especially), rough in a fan-rated box now, because swapping a box through a finished ceiling costs far more than the upgrade.
