Mounting a light on a soffit or finished ceiling normally means cutting in a box. The Arlington MB8 is an 8 in round mounting block, a medallion and electrical box in one, that screws straight to the soffit or ceiling joist with no drywall cut-out. It is paintable, UV-rated plastic for interior or exterior use. For Canadian installs it is CSA rated 50 lb fan or fixture; the 70 lb fan and 200 lb fixture figures are its UL rating.

Pro tip from the counter
Drive the two 3 in screws into the joist or framing behind the soffit, not just the soffit panel. Vinyl or aluminum soffit can't carry a fan or flood light, and the CSA 50 lb rating assumes the block is fastened to solid framing.
Best for: soffit flood lights and security lights, porch and covered patio ceiling fans, retrofit fixtures without cutting drywall, exterior smoke or motion devices
