Lumen supplies fluorescent tubes, LED replacements, panel fixtures and electronic ballasts for commercial and institutional lighting. Prices here run from about $5.60 for a 6W T5 9-inch tube up to roughly $52 for a 2x2 LED panel in 347V. The range covers T5 and T8 tubes in 3000K and 4100K, a 4-foot LED vapour-tight, and a Quicktronic two-lamp T8 electronic ballast at about $19.50. Two things decide the right part: the lamp base and length, and whether you are keeping the existing ballast or bypassing it. A ballast-bypass LED tube will not work in a fixture whose ballast is still in circuit, and the reverse is also true.
**What is the difference between a ballast-compatible and a ballast-bypass LED tube?**
A ballast-compatible tube runs on the existing electronic ballast with no rewiring. A ballast-bypass tube requires the ballast to be removed and line voltage wired direct to the sockets. Installing the wrong type in the wrong fixture will not work and can damage the lamp.
**Can I put a T8 lamp in a T5 fixture?**
No. T5 and T8 differ in tube diameter, length and pin base, and they are not interchangeable. Match the existing lamp's designation and length exactly, or replace the whole fixture.
**What does 347V mean on a panel fixture?**
347V is a common Canadian commercial lighting voltage derived from a 600V three-phase system. It is not used in residential work. Verify the supply voltage at the fixture before ordering, because a 347V fixture will not run on 120V.
**What colour temperature should I choose?**
3000K is a warm white suited to hospitality and residential spaces. 4100K is a neutral white common in offices, retail and shops. Mixing colour temperatures in one room is visible and looks like a mistake, so keep a space consistent.
