When the fan location falls between joists, a bracket box saves adding blocking. The Arlington FBR425F is a non-metallic vapour box on an adjustable steel bracket, built for double drywall ceilings, with a gasketed flange and a 27.5 cu in body. In Canada it is CSA rated for a 50 lb fan or fixture at joist spacing of 16 to 24 in; its higher UL ratings apply to US installations.

Pro tip from the counter
The UL rating on this bracket box climbs when joists are 16 in on centre instead of 24, but the CSA rating stays at 50 lb across 16 to 24 in spacing. In Canada, tighter joist spacing doesn't let you hang a heavier fan on this box.
Best for: fan locations between joists, double-drywall ceilings, air-tight top-floor ceilings, renovations with open framing
