Setting sleeves before a pour costs far less than core-drilling a finished slab. The Arlington CPS20 is a plastic concrete pipe sleeve that forms a 2 in hole through the pour, so a 1-1/2 in conduit or a bundle of cable can pass from one floor to the next. At 8.5 in tall it suits typical slab thicknesses and is an economical way to block out small penetrations.

Pro tip from the counter
Fasten each sleeve to the deck form with nails or screws through the base and tape over the top before the pour. Vibrated concrete will float or tip a loose sleeve, and an open top fills with slurry that has to be chipped out later.
