Lovato Electric is an Italian manufacturer of industrial motor control and automation components. The line stocked here covers IEC contactors, motor protection circuit breakers, enclosed disconnect switches, fuse holders and pilot devices, which is most of what goes into a control panel. Size contactors from motor full load amps and the utilization category rather than horsepower alone, and confirm coil voltage before ordering, since the same frame is sold with several coil ratings. Motor protection circuit breakers are ordered by adjustable current band, so choose the range that brackets your nameplate current.
Common questions
How do I decode a Lovato contactor part number such as DPBG1201A23060?
Lovato codes the series, frame, pole count and contact arrangement first, then the coil voltage and frequency at the tail. In that number the trailing 23060 is a 230 volt 60 hertz coil. Two part numbers with the same prefix and different tail digits are the same switch with a different coil, so read the last block closely.
What size motor protection circuit breaker do I need?
SM series units are specified by an adjustable current range instead of a single rating. Take the motor nameplate full load current and pick the unit whose range puts that value near mid-scale, then set the dial to nameplate. Also compare the interrupting rating against the available fault current at the supply point.
Do Lovato contactors take add-on auxiliary contact blocks?
Yes. Front-mount and side-mount blocks such as the BFX series clip onto the matching contactor frame. Auxiliary blocks are frame-specific, so a block built for a mini contactor will not seat on a larger frame. Order the block with the contactor and confirm the normally open and normally closed combination your control circuit needs.
Enclosed disconnect or panel-mounted switch, which one do I order?
An enclosed padlockable disconnect arrives in an IP65 or NEMA 4X housing and mounts on a wall or machine frame, including washdown and outdoor locations. A direct-operation extensible switch such as the GA series is meant to sit inside your own enclosure with a door-coupled handle. Choose based on where the operating handle has to land.
Some Lovato items say stock in Montreal. What does that mean for delivery?
It means the item is held in Canadian stock rather than brought in on order. Either way, Canada-wide delivery typically runs 3 to 7 business days. Ontario and Quebec orders over $150 ship free, the rest of Canada takes 10 percent off at checkout, and counter pickup is at 8520 Jane St in Vaughan.
